Being EVH 101: 1# Tone
Eddie (a self described "tone chaser") achieved his distinctive tone, known as the "Brown sound", by using the EVH "Frankenstrat" guitar, a stock 100-watt Marshall amp, a Variac (to lower the voltage of the amp to change the tone) and effects such as an Echoplex, an MXR Phase 90, an MXR Flanger and EQs. Van Halen constructed his now legendary Frankenstrat guitar using a Charvel factory "2nd" body and neck (cost $50), a single vintage Gibson PAF humbucker pickup (sealed in paraffin wax to reduce microphonic feedback), a pre-CBS Fender tremolo bridge (later to be a Floyd Rose bridge) and a single volume control with a knob labeled "tone". Eddie has used a variety of pickups including Gibson PAF's, 1970s Mighty Mites, DiMarzios and Ibanez Super 70s. Eddie was using Mighty Mite pickups in 1977 club photos, just prior to the recording of the first Van Halen album. Mighty Mite pickups were OEM pickups made by Seymour Duncan and were copies of DiMarzio Super Distortion pickups and can be identified by their lack of bobbin holes. Seymour Duncan started advertising pickup rewinding services In late 1977/early 1978 and apparently rewound a Gibson PAF for Eddie around the early 1978 period.
The now famous single pickup, single volume knob guitar configuration was the chosen platform due to Van Halen's lack of knowledge in electronic circuitry, primitive wire soldering skills, and his disappointment in not finding an adequate, durable bridge and neck pick-up combination on his own. Upon installing the humbucking pickup he did not know how to wire it into the guitar circuit, so he wired the simplest working circuit to get it to function.
His later guitars include various Kramer models from his period of endorsing that company (most notably the Kramer "5150", from which Kramer in its Gibson-owned days based their Kramer 1984 design, an unofficial artist signature model) and three signature models: the Ernie Ball/ Music Man Edward van Halen Model (Which continues as the Ernie Ball Axis), the Peavey EVH Wolfgang (which has been succeeded by a similar guitar called the HP Special), and the Charvel EVH Art Series, on which Eddie does the striping before they are painted by Charvel.
In an interview he gave to Guitar World magazine in July, 1985, Van Halen states that his "brown sound" is "basically a tone, a feeling that I'm always working at ... It comes from the person." He continues, "If the person doesn't even know what that type of tone I'm talking about is, they can't really work towards it, can they?"

What Porsche Has Got In Store For You...Is A New Secret Weapon.
PORSCHE 918 SPYDER
The Porsche 918 Spyder (known internally as Project XG10) is a mid-engined concept sports car designed by Porsche and first shown at the 80th edition of the Geneva Motor Show in March 2010. It is the first plug-in hybrid car from Porsche.
The 3.4 litre V8 engine (500 hp/370 kW) is a development of the engine used in the RS Spyder Le Mans Prototype racing car. This is supplemented by three electric motors delivering an additional 218 horsepower (163 kW). The transmission is a 7-speed gearbox coupled to Porsche's own (PDK) double clutch system delivering power to the rear axle. Two electric motors drive the front wheels directly through a fixed ratio while a third electric motor is connected to the transmission and gives additional power to the rear wheels. This gives the 918 Spyder a 0–100 km/h time in just under 3.2 seconds and a top speed of over 320 kilometres per hour (200 mph). The energy storage system is a liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery positioned behind the passenger cell. In addition to the plug-in recharge the batteries can also be charged by regenerative braking and by excess output from the engine when the car is coasting. CO2 emissions are 70 g/km and fuel consumption is 3 L/100 km (94 imperial mpg/78 us mpg). The 918 Spyder offers 4 different running modes: E-Drive allows the car to run under battery power alone, using the rear electric motor only, giving a range of 16 miles (26 km). Three hybrid modes (Hybrid, Sport and Race) use both the engine and electric motors to provide the desired levels of economy and performance. In Race mode a push-to-pass button is available to deliver additional electrical power.
The chassis is a carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic monocoque. Magnesium and aluminium are extensively used in the construction of the car which helps keep the 918 Spyder's weight down to 1,490 kilograms (3,300 lb).
On July 28, 2010, after 2000 declarations of interest, the Supervisory Board of Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, gave the green light for series development of the Porsche 918 Spyder. The 918 will be produced in a limited series. It will be developed in Weissach and assembled in Zuffenhausen.
The Porsche 918 spyder is featured in the game Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit as a drivable vehicle. Unlike the other Porsche cars featured in the game, it is not available in a police livery.
PORSCHE 918 RSR
At the NAIAS 2011, Porsche unveiled the RSR racing variant of the 918 Spyder. Instead of being a plug-in hybrid, the RSR is powered by a 563 horsepower gasoline V8 engine driving the rear wheels, with dual electric motors driving the front. Power to the electric motors is provided by a flywheel accumulator KERS system that sits beside the driver in the passenger compartment and boosts the total power to 767 horsepower for up to eight seconds when fully charged.

Another Hiatus Comeback...
Hi everyone,
It's been a while about my post on my band. If you may remember, it's called Rewind. But now, we're back for more. With a new format, a new sound, and a new member. We are called...
FRUGAL
FRUGAL, doing a sound check at a music festival.
Left to Right: Narendra Hutomo (Vocals, Rhythm Guitarist, and additional Drums & Percussion, male in black T-shirt), Luqman Taufiqurahman (Keyboards, red batik-ware), Radio Adhi (Bass, sitting beside Luqman), Rakha Sadharma (Drums & Percussion, male in T-Shirt w/ green-hand print logo) & Nabil Harindyaswara (Lead Guitarist, Far Right in batik-ware)
A band founded in 2008, originally formed as a blues project that went bust. Used to be a band named "Rewind", a band with blues-rock genre. At 2010, "Rewind" changed name into "Frugal". Frugal then turned out to be an instrumentalist band with mixture of genres, such as rock, jazz, funk, with influential artist from the 70's, 80's, and 90's.
A New One From Pagani...
Pagani Huayra
Manufacturer : Pagani
Predecessor : Pagani Zonda
Layout : Rear mid-engine, rear-wheel drive layout
Engine : Mercedes AMG V12 Bi-Turbo M158, 5980 cc.
Like the Zonda, the Huayra uses a Mercedes-AMG 60° V-12 engine, now fitted with dual turbochargers horsepower and 1,100 N·m (810 lb·ft) of torque. Its top speed is 230 mph (370 km/h) and it has a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) time in less than 3.5 seconds. Using Pirelli. This engine, the M158, produces over 750 tires, the Pagani Huayra is capable of withstanding 1.5g of lateral acceleration at speeds of up to 230 mph (370 km/h).
Unlike many modern supercars, the Pagani Huayra does not use a dual-clutch gearbox; instead it uses a seven-speed sequential gearbox and a dual-disc clutch. The choice to not use a dual-clutch in oil bath was because it would lead to an increase in weight of over 70 kg (154 lb), negating the advantage of the ability of such transmissions to change gears faster. As a result, the entire transmission of the Pagani Huayra weighs 96 kg.
